Can you say that your collection of music shapes your attitude and outlook towards life? Not much can be said about that for sure. But what is certain is that your own acquisition gives you a sense of joy and pride. Just peering over it gives you an unexplained feeling of satisfaction. You simply know that is all yours. This is great especially when you share it with the people you love. Imagine spending a quiet evening watching music videos you bought over the years with your wife or loved one? The feeling is amazing, more so if they enjoyed it as well. You are proud that what means so much to you can bless someone else as well.

Owning a good collection of authentic music gives you a great time when listening to it. The high quality of the folk, alternative, emo or indie songs can not be compared with anything. The sound definition of the music is excellent. This is one of the benefits of owning your own music. You enjoy it as it was produced. The pain and frustration of straining to hear through copied and scratched music is avoided. Having your original music allows you to make your own copies. This is only allowed if you intend to use it personally and not for sale. You can compile a copy of your best songs and listen when driving.

A good collection of music is like treasure. You will agree that not many people are allowed to touch and meddle with the music you have acquired over the years. If you are lucky, some of the original music you bought many years ago could be worth quite a fortune presently. Equally, if you liked certain music and failed to buy it then, you will be surprised that it is quite difficult to lay your hands on it today. However, with your own collection of blues, emo, indie, alternative or folk songs classics, you will not have to worry of such inconveniences. If it is possible, make it a habit to buy what you like. You never know what will happen in the future. Can I hear you say Michael Jackson?

Finally, your own collection of authentic music helps support the music industry. You will be proud to know that by buying a copy of your favorite music videos, blues, folk, emo or indie songs, you support the artists immensely. This is the only way to keep them doing what you love them to do!

Tips On How To Appreciate Music

Posted by Emo Girl | Music | Wednesday 13 January 2010 11:09 pm

emo
One of the best ways you can appreciate music is by taking your friends out for an evening. Go where they are playing your best songs. You can check in advance what your local clubs will be playing. Plan well so that you and your loved one spend some time just enjoying great blues, emo, or indie songs over a sumptuous meal and good conversation. If you love dancing, then this is a good time to do that as well.

Another tip on how to appreciate music is to just make it impromptu. If you were planning to go have your car washed or your hair done, cancel that and put on your best music videos and watch. It is beautiful to listen to music this way. You a re guaranteed to have a good time and the experience is quite relaxing.

On the other hand, make time for a nice session where you will do nothing else but enjoy your music. Have what you want to listen or watch set in place before you start. It can be your music videos, indie or alternative music. Do this without the usual interruptions of checking what is on television, or thinking about your job. Concentrate on just listening.

A good tip towards appreciating music is by owing a collection of your favorite songs. This can be done by buying or downloading from the internet. Having what you like all the time will make you enjoy your music even more. Make copies for your ipod or mobile phone. You can create your own play list from your collection where you only listen to what appeals to you.

Sampling music from different parts of the world is another beautiful way of appreciating music. If you are visiting Africa, check out what they have. You might end up loving their folk songs. If you are in Brazil, do not forget to join the carnival as it is quite a phenomenon there. By doing this you appreciate the talent and magic from different people. It enriches your experience and adds to your knowledge in music.

The work place is where you spend most of your time. How about making it interesting? Appreciate your music right where you do what you do best. Save some music in your work computer, get some nice speakers and play your folk, indie or emo music as you work. You will appreciate its calming effect and you might even start looking towards your weekdays instead of your off days.

Finally your folk, emo, indie or alternative songs make the most sense when you play them softly. The volume from your stereo does not need to be always high. Try it; you will learn to appreciate the songs even more. It is a good way to really listen to that blues or indie CD properly. You get to hear the words right and the beats are never missed. It is very soothing and relaxing and acts as a great stress buster.

15 Influential Punk Bands

by Nicole Lero

Source: HotPopRock

While this list is in no way inclusive of all influential punk bands — you would need to list hundreds — this list is a good representation of many punk bands that have helped to shape a scene over the years — as well as sibling scenes such as goth, emo, and hardcore.

01. The Ramones – This NYC band really helped to start it all in the mid-1970s and influenced countless others to follow in their shoes in their decades-spanning career.

02. The Clash – While this band is more mellow than a lot of the more influential punk bands of the 70s and 80s, their subversive messages were also able to reach a wider audience than many, which is incredibly punk.

03. The Sex Pistols – Sure, they were more style than substance, and many people believe they were manufactured to create a trend… but what is more influential than that?

04. Bad Brains – This early DC hardcore band influenced many bands over the course of their career. Although they had strong reggae influences, they were one of the definitive hardcore bands of the 1980s.

05. Rites of Spring – Also hailing from DC, this band is one of the most influential bands in the emo genre, and is often credited with starting the movement.

06. 7 Seconds – One of the first straight edge bands, the played a poppier style of music than many of their counterparts in the scene, but were instrumental in starting it off.

07. Minor Threat – This band truly brought straight edge to the punk masses, with a single album of songs about not drinking, smoking, or doing drugs.

08. The Stooges – Mixing garage rock and punk, this band put together different elements to create a unique sound that many have emulated over the years. Further, Iggy Pop’s stage presence was so intense, it changed the way people thought of punk rock performers forever.

09. The Damned – Dressed like vampires and playing spooky music that walked the line between punk and what is now known as goth, this is a band that was a true trailblazer in terms of re-defining, and creating, a genre.

10. Misfits – This New Jersey band, which focused (and still does) on primarially horror themes is essentially the first horror-punk band.

11. The New York Dolls – While their singer is best known as Buster Poindexter, back in the day, David Johansen and his crew, including the legendary Johnny Thunders, pushed boundaries and opened minds with both their appearance and music.

12. Fugazi – When Minor Threat ended, the band’s singer Ian MacKaye tried different projects, and one of them was Fugazi. This band is also instrumental in what has become known as modern-day emo.

13. The Rezillos – This Scottish band with both male and female vocals made punk rock fun, with silly songs and wacky, offbeat rhythms. They influenced many bands, including the B-52′s.

14. NOFX – Not the world’s most serious band, NOFX proved that you can play fast, snotty punk rock with a sense of humor, but more importantly, actual talent.

15. Blondie – While many women would love to claim the title of “the queen of punk rock,” there is no doubt that Blondie’s lead singer Debbie Harry holds it, and it still looks wonderful on her, even today.

Here’s hoping this list helped to explain some of the roots and influences of modern punk rock music.

Austin Entertainment Profiles : Red River Clubs

Posted by Emo Girl | Music | Friday 1 January 2010 8:30 pm
emo
The vast majority of true rock and roll and blues artists have grown up and lived on the poor side of town. Today, the same rings true, as many of Austin’s local musicians can be found just east of IH-35, where the streets are a little tougher and the rent a little easier to pay. It makes sense that several live music venues are found on Red River Street, where downtown Austin and East Austin converge, just one block west of the interstate.

Though live music clubs can be found sprinkled around town, Red River hosts eight of them within a few block stretch. The music genres vary slightly on Red River with Rock, and its offshoots, as the primary focus. As opposed to the dueling piano players or slew of cover bands normally found on 6th street, the bands playing on Red River are playing all original music, and hoping to find enough fans to build up a following and gain some recognition, since the money they will take home is usually based on the number of people coming through the door.

Clubs such as Headhunters and Room 710 draw a hard rock audience that can be filled with tough punks and fans from the local roller derby teams. Club Deville and Mohawk both have fantastic outside stages with limestone cliffs jutting out from behind the stage, and dark as pitch seating areas inside for relaxing between sets.

Randall and Donya Stockton opened their Red River club Beerland after their old club, Bates Motel, burned down on 6th Street. The Stocktons offer opportunities to up-and-coming bands looking to play their first show, as they have live music six nights a week, with several live acts a night. Gearing more towards a garage rock crowd, Beerland books national and touring acts, as well as local favorites, with a cover charge rarely exceeding five dollars.

Emo’s is probably the most well known and longest lasting club, situated on the corner of Red River and 6th Street. When the club opened in the early 90s, there was no cover for those 21 and up, and a one dollar cover for minors. Today, they still offer admission to all ages, and have grown larger, now with an indoor stage for smaller shows, and a larger outdoor stage for better known acts. Most recently, they have opened the Emo’s Lounge, and can have three live shows playing simultaneously. During the South By Southwest Music Festival of 1994, Emo’s had a surprise guest appearance by Johnny Cash, which is still one of the most talked about club performances in town.

Recently Austin-based independent concert promotion company C3 Presents took over national booking duties for Emo’s, already doing so for Stubbs BBQ, the club located north on Red River. C3, best known for booking the largely popular Austin City Limits Festival in September, vows to not raise prices at the door, though the days of a two dollar cover are long gone. However, as a treat to Austin’s music loving public, Emo’s still offers “Free Week” the first week of every new year, and keeps Red River’s music community going strong.

Music like any other form of art is a great form of entertainment for you. Your blues, emo, indie, folk or music videos are a great source of fun for you and your loved ones. Whether it’s an African village enjoying the live beats of the drum or a club in the middle of New York, the effect is the same. The music does it all for them.

You can enjoy a great time with music as a form of fun by dancing. Simply get up and take to the floor. When listening to your blues, emo or folk songs there is no better way for you to express your feeling that shaking what you’ve got. Just let your hair down for a moment and let the music take you. You are sure to enjoy it every time you get on the floor. Music causes you to just want to move. It stirs within you slowly until you can’t hold still no more.

You can also enjoy music by simply watching the artists do what they love. You enjoy musicals and operas this way. The music just causes you to sit still and enjoy. The moment is like an experience out of this world. For a moment you forget about everything else. You focus on the music. The indie, folk or alternative songs capture your consciousness. It’s like a musical trance. You feel it in your inner most being. That‘s how music entertains you.

Even without having to go out for that opera or musical, you know that music will still entertain you wherever you are. You can have a great time just sitting and listening to your best emo or indie CD right in your living room. Call your friends to enjoy the moment with you. It lightens the mood and makes you all laugh without a care in the world. It’s even okay if you choose to dance right in the middle of your living room. The music transforms an uneventful and boring evening into one you are sure not to forget.

Music entertains you quite well in clubs and discos. If going out is your cup of tea, you know how much fun this is. When the music is playing out loud and the lighting adds to the effect you can’t help but enjoy. Everything goes here. While sipping on your favorite drink and whispering at your friend’s ear, you know that you don’t want the evening to end. The indie, folk, alternative or emo songs played for you make the atmosphere just as you want it to be. At this point, you unleash your vivacious side and you can confidently ask that guy, “wanna dance?” This is because you’re really entertained.

Music as a form of entertainment is evident in celebrations and special occasions. You know how without the folk, emo or indie music at your best friend’s graduation you would have had a drab time. You can swear that the only reason you stayed was because of the music.

Music touches you on every part of your emotion. It appeals to every nature of your being. It knows how to elicit feelings of anger, pain, sadness, anguish, love, joy, peace and courage. It does not matter whether it is an emo, blues, indie or alternative song, they all can have the same effect.

When you hear about a love song, you will most likely think of the emotion and feelings between two lovers. Yet when it comes to music, you will be surprised that there is more to the love song that the outward expression of romantic or amorous gestures. The blues, music videos, emo or alternative songs might be more than what you are thinking. Listen carefully and you might hear the following.

A love song is a call for you to care for your loved one. Well, this is not just the person you share almost everything with. It is the stranger walking outside your picket fence, the girl trying out the dress in the mall, the teenager skating in the park or the elderly crossing the road. The blues, indie or alternative song is calling you to take action. It appeals to you to get more concerned about other people.

Love songs tell us to care for everyone and everything in a positive way. This is not only people, but pets and animals in our care, the environment and everything else in our possession. How better would you feel if you were to practice caring in addition to listening to the beautiful indie or emo melodies?

It is a good way of making you feel fulfilled. By looking outwards away from yourself, you feel needed. You get a sense of purpose. When you take a hot bowl of soup to the elderly lady living by herself, it makes you feel better. The emo, blues and alternative songs gently ask us to do what is within our reach. It does not have to be extravagant. However little, if it’s positive then it is good.

The lovely tunes about love tell us a story about courage. They talk about everyday bravely. They give you the heart to wake up in every morning and do what makes you appreciate life. Whether it is sipping on your hot cup of cappuccino or smiling at that dude in the office. That is what a love song does; it is a call to life. Your blues, indie, alternative or folk songs invigorate you to get out there and live life courageously.

Great music that makes up love songs urge you not to bow down to fear, negativity, or the hardships that are swept in your path from time to time. Your collection of indie or alternative love songs energizes you to go through these hurdles courageously. They sing for you when you fall. They prod you to get up and dust yourself. They cheer you on when you are making it in your own little world. That is what a love is.
