There is again no sure-fire way to prevent all hair loss; however, there are some methods that have been used that work on some people.

Massage and aromatherapy have been used with some success. In minor cases of temporary hair loss, hair growth can be stimulated by massage, since blood and oxygen flow to the scalp must be healthy in order for hair to grow.

A blend of six drops each of lavender and bay essential oils in a base of fourounces of either almond, soybean or sesame oil massaged into the scalp and allowed to sit for 20 minutes has been used by aroma therapists to stimulate the scalp.

Once the mixture is in the scalp for 20 minutes, wash your hair and scalp with your normal shampoo mixed with three drops of bay essential oil. Massaging the scalp in general for a couple of minutes a day can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and in mild cases stimulate some hair growth.

Studies have shown Saw Palmetto extract is an effective anti-androgen and therefore there is promise for its effectiveness as an effective treatment for hair loss prevention. Women who take Saw Palmetto should cease doing so when taking oral contraceptives or hormone therapy.

Nettles are rich in vitamins A and C, several key minerals and lipids that can be beneficial to the hair. Nettle Root Extract has been used successfully in Europe as an inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase in treating BPH. As mentioned earlier, 5-alpha reductase is a key component in turning testosterone into DHT, the substance that causes the atrophy of hair follicles. Therefore there is great promise in its use as a component in natural hair loss treatments. Nettle Root Extract is available at health food stores over the counter, and has few side effects.

Rosemary and sage are two herbs that have shown benefit traditionally when used externally. It is suggested that to promote a clean scalp, stimulation of the hair root, and thickening hair one should boil together in water rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock. Then strain the loose herbs from the liquid and use the liquid to wash the hair daily.

Aloe Vera has been used by Native Americans, Indians and many in the Caribbean to promote healthy hair and prevent hair loss. Aloe’s positive effects on the skin are well known, and likewise it can help the scalp by healing it and balancing the pH level of the scalp while cleansing the pores. A common preparation of Aloe Vera gel with a small amount of wheat germ oil and coconut milk is used as a shampoo and has traditionally shown great benefit.

Of course, if you do not want to go through the trouble of concocting your own formulas, similar products, or products containing these ingredients, may be found in the health food store if one does some searching.

Punk hairstyles – those bizarre, colorful things that you see in high streets, villages and black-painted teenage bedrooms! I’m not a punk and have never been one, but I have always been fascinated by the whole punk look and ideology – probably because I was a teenager at the very time that punk exploded, kicking, screaming, swearing and spitting, into popular culture.

Punk took off as a mainstream fashion and music trend during the mid-1970s, largely due to the efforts of high profile English fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood and the crown princes of punk – The Sex Pistols. The Pistols were managed at the time by Malcolm McLaren, who was Westwood’s partner (personally and professionally) and the crazy mixture of these 3 forces gave rise to what would become a global phenomenon.

The Pistols’ unique look was largely created by Westwood, utilizing zips, rips, chains, bondage, porn and slogans. The fashion tapped into anti-establishment feelings of the time and the punk hairstyles were a reflection of the clothes and attitudes – unwashed, anarchic and spiky. Mid-to-late-1970s punk hairstyles were actually quite subdued; hair remained fairly short – probably as a reaction to the trend at the time for both male and female hair to be worn long.

Hair was simply chopped of using whatever implements were to hand, and left untreated and unwashed. As a result, the hair tended to form itself into clumps and spikes, which started to become the formal “look” for punk hair. Color – especially bright orange as worn by Pistols’ frontman Johnny Rotten – became another punk hairstyle ‘stamp,’ which could be seen on high-streets all around large cities of the UK. Women also tended to decorate their hair to match their outfits.

As punk moved into the 80s, it also moved from the streets into mainstream fashion and also from being a largely British phenomenon, into a worldwide movement. With the greater influence of fashion, punk hair styles also became more popular, formal and more ‘designer,’ with the use of much more hair colorings and deliberately asymmetric cuts. Spiky hairstyles began to be formalized with the use of hair gel and bleaching (the Billy Idol look) became really popular, as did the most famous punk hairstyle of all – the Mohawk.

The Mohawk – or Mohican – hairstyle is the definitive punk hairstyle. The style is so-called because it is thought to have been worn by the Mahican and Mohawk tribes, altough in reality it appears that the Huron tribe were the first to sport the hairstyle. The Mohawk hairstyle is characterized by a shaved scalp with an upright strip of hair running across the crown of the head from the forehead to the nape of the neck.. 1980s punk culture became identified with magnificent, colorful Mohawks, but – tragically for a rebel culture – the style became so mainstream that high-fashion catwalks around the world began to feature supermodels wearing beautifully-styled, peacock-like Mohawks.

Since that time, little has changed really. Punk music has evolved into many styles, most notably the Emo punk genre so popular with American teenagers. Punk music has largely returned to the underground, but the punk ‘look’ is very much mainstream, as popular as ever with disaffected and experimental teens as well as older punks who refuse give up on the punk lifestyle and philosophy. But what about the hairstyles? Well you can now walk into any high street salon and ask for a modern, punk hairstyle. Truly punk hairstyles are now all about the fashion statement…

· For a Pageboy bob: Use a wide-barrelled curler and curl the back of your hair and bangs under. Wait for the curls to cool, and brush gently, encouraging the large curls, with a large, round brush. Spray well.

· For a flip bob: If you like the mostly straight bob with a little flip in or out at end, use a flat iron to make most of your hair straight, and make your hair flip in or flip out at the ends by twisting inch wide sections around the flat iron.

· Kinky bob: If you do not have naturally curly hair, create curls using wacky curlers or by using a narrow-barrelled curling iron. Leave the curlers in your hair for at least a half and hour and blow your hair dry, or, using a curler, wind your hair around the iron in one-inch wide sections. Use a pick to arrange your curls and spray well.

· Layered Bob: If your hair is layered, and you would like a soft, natural looking bob, rinse out your conditioner well and work mousse through your wet hair. Dry well, using your fingers to style your hair and twist some strands of hair for extra wave.

· Super glossy bob: This look is great for formal events. Use shampoo and conditioner specially designed to bring out the sheen in your hair. Sculpt wet hair with gel and brush straight. Blow dry on a low setting, and finish with a hair spray that will make your hair very shiny.

· Super short bob: Paris Hilton sported this bob shortly before getting her hair sheared. This bob requires very little maintenance. The hair should be cropped close to the face. Use a little mousse to give the hair a bit of volume. You needn’t worry about making the bob very curly or very straight, since this is a natural looking hairdo. Simply use mousse, coax your hair into the desired style with a brush as you blow it dry.

· Emo bob: Although emo’s claim to ignore fashion, the bob has hit even the emo crowd. Cut your hair into a blunt cut with scissors. Don’t worry if the ends are not exactly even. Dye your hair black and add red or frosted highlights if you wish.

Bobs and short haircuts can create a very “sweet” look. A short haircut that has as much sass and elegance as a bob is the “pixie” look. This hairstyle is great if you have an oval face and want soft bangs that emphasize your eyes. The back is cut in the shape of a wedge, and more hair is left at the top. The bangs can be curled under or combed straight. A little curl is quite feminine and brings out the eyes.

There are times in life when things go so bad that you or someone you know just wants to hide under a rock and not be seen by another living creature for the next century or so. Times like when a friend feels so down that even soothing words have stopped having any meaning at all, when days go by in a dreary gray of routine and living has just become a mindless process of shuffling one foot ahead of the other one to move (if you can manage standing up in the first place). As much as possible, we don’t want anyone we love or care for to undergo this kind of pain and suffering in their lives, but it can be said that these things are inevitable aspects of existence.

Separating from a lover, losing valuable property, losing a job, a serious accident, or the death of a loved one can profoundly depress a person. These are some of the things that can make someone lose all interest in life and may even change his or her behavior which in turn will affect his or her relationships with other people. In daily usage, “depression” is usually taken to mean as a temporary downturn in mood because of petty reasons, such as the failure of a boyfriend to answer calls. However, clinical depression is a serious psychiatric disorder that needs medical attention. It can affect the afflicted person’s life in all aspects since a clinically depressed patient loses all interest in enjoying normally fulfilling activities due to a pervasive low mood. In worst cases, the patient can go as far as committing suicide to end the misery.

We don’t want this to happen to our friends. Whether their depression is trivial or severe, we need to give them all the love and attention they need in order to cope with their problems in life. This takes a lot of effort, but if we truly care for our friends, we will not dismiss them as “just another emo” (emo being the degrading term for oftentimes sensitive people who tend to feel bad about trivial things). Besides medical attention (in case the depression is severe), we need to give them our time and support them through—as the cliché goes—-thick and thin.

How do you do it? First of all, when you notice that a friend is feeling down, don’t wait for him or her to approach you about the problem. Go on ask about it. Your friend will definitely appreciate your concern. Afterwards, spend time with your friend and help solve the problem. Give encouraging presents such as cards, letters, and of course—flowers! Giving some flowers wouldn’t hurt especially if your friend happens to be bedridden or if he or she just lost a loved one to death. Flowers can surely cheer anyone up, since the act is so thoughtful and caring. It just shows the depth of your concern for any depressed person in dire need of it. Have the flowers delivered straight to your friend’s doorstep by the courier or deliver them yourself for an extra personal touch. Delivery is usually fast and efficient so you don’t have to wait long for them to arrive.

Starting a friendship is a social skill that takes years to learn. Doing it successfully, like with most skills, involves a lot of trial and error on your part. Knowing when to approach a person, picking the right topic to start a conversation, and finding the guts to start it may come naturally to some people. Others find making friends difficult due to shyness and the lack of confidence in their verbal skills. Whichever the case is, one good way to start a friendship without some of the awkwardness is to give flowers on the right occasions.

Flowers can sometimes be more eloquent than people. Different roses, for instance, have varying shades of meaning for every affair. Also, giving flowers mean that you value a relationship (or future relationship) enough to go out of your way to make the person feel special. Starting a friendship involves confidence, trust, and effort. Giving flowers certainly makes the person appreciate your efforts more in trying to be friends.

However, before giving flowers to people you’d like to be friends with, make sure that you know the right flowers to pick. They should be appropriate to the occasion. For example, if you’re attending a birthday celebration for a person that you are not that closely acquainted with, giving orange roses says that you want to know her better. If you’re at a wedding, giving yellow roses to the newlyweds mean that you are glad to share their happiness. Peach and pink roses convey admiration, so if you want to start a friendship with an officemate (or anyone whose work you appreciate), pink or peach flowers are the best choice.

Giving flowers is a good touch to develop a friendship, but don’t forget to consider other factors. One, always be well-groomed. Give a good first impression and maintain that impression. Two, update yourself on current events and read a lot of books so that starting a conversation with a stranger comes easier. Three, have a positive outlook in life so that people would be attracted to you, because really, no one wants to hang out with an emo (unless they’re emo too)! Lastly, just relax and enjoy meeting people rather than always worrying about whether you said or did the right thing. Before you know it, starting a friendship has become a breeze. It will come naturally to you if you put effort into it—and nothing says “effort” better than giving flowers besides improving yourself.
